Connecting a wallet to your account at The Sandbox

A guide on connecting a cryptocurrency wallet to your account at The Sandbox.

Why connect a wallet to your account?

  • A cryptocurrency wallet is required if you intend to hold SAND tokens, the currency of The Sandbox metaverse. SAND tokens are used to purchase NFTs in The Sandbox, gain access to particular gated experiences, and so on.

  • A wallet is also required if you intend to be able to claim any rewards that you have earned or won, for example through Play-To-Earn or by winning contests. The rewards will be sent to and stored in this wallet.

  • The wallet will also hold any NFTs that you own, such as avatars and LAND.

You can choose to connect a wallet at the same time that you register your account at The Sandbox. Or you can choose to connect a wallet later.

Always keep your login information secret, safe and secure. Your cryptocurrency wallet in time could potentially be worth hundreds or thousands in your national currency!

Never give out your passwords. Never give out your seed phrases. Never let anyone you do not trust use your computer account (if your wallet has a browser extension).

Note that all wallet providers that The Sandbox supports are third-parties.

What wallet provider do you recommend for me?

This is entirely up to you. We recommend that you do some research into the available options to see which you feel is better suited for you, your needs, and your technical ability. Some more information about some of the options is below.

  • MetaMask - The most popular wallet on the Ethereum blockchain and within The Sandbox. However, it is mainly preferred by those with some experience in cryptocurrency and blockchain interaction. Registration may take a few minutes.

  • Coinbase - Might be preferred by cryptocurrency traders who exchange cryptocurrency a lot, in order to avoid having to pay additional gas fees to transfer the funds to another wallet. Registration may take a few minutes.

  • Bitski - Is easy to set up and would probably be preferred by those with little cryptocurrency or blockchain experience. Registration may take around two minutes.

  • Venly - Requires no effort to set up at all and would likely be preferred by those who are completely new to cryptocurrency and the blockchain. Registration may take around one minute.

The Sandbox recommends using a hardware wallet in addition to your software wallet, for added extra security. MetaMask allows you to integrate some hardware wallets with it.

What is a seed phrase / key phrase, and should I share this?

This is your unique security phrase, which is usually made up of between 12 and 24 random words. This phrase allows you to access your wallet on different devices.

You should never share this phrase with anyone. It will allow whoever has it to gain access to your wallet and therefore anything inside it. The phrase should be treated as if it is your banking PIN number.

Where can I find my wallet address, and should I share this?

Once you have connected your wallet to your account at The Sandbox, you will see your wallet address on the Profile page of The Sandbox website when you are logged in.

Your wallet address can be shared if the circumstances require it, such as when requesting support from official support teams. It is also needed by anyone who is going to send funds or NFTs to you. It won't allow anybody access to your account or wallet itself, however we would advise not sharing your wallet address unless it's really needed.

How can I change my wallet after I already connected one to my account?

At the time of writing, this is not possible. Make sure you choose the correct or desired wallet provider at the time of registration.
