Turn your models into NFTs for use as a unique ASSET on the Etherium blockchain.

How are ASSETs different to NFT ASSETs?

At this point in your journey, you will likely have created your ASSETs and added them to your experience in the Game Maker for testing.

To do this you export from VoxEdit to the Game Maker and the ASSETs will only be visible in your account. All of this is done without 'Minting' your ASSETs.

The actual 'Minting' process is how you publish your ASSETs to the blockchain for use in the Marketplace and The Sandbox Metaverse. This is what makes an ASSET a Non-Fungible Token, referred to as an NFT.

Currently only whitelisted creators can mint ASSETs. You can however export from VoxEdit to The Sandbox Dashboard to test your ASSETs in the Game Maker.

What is a non-fungible token?

When you have finished with modelling in VoxEdit and are getting ready to publish your experience you will need to 'mint' your ASSETs. This will turn them into NFTs (Non-Fungible Tokens), which means they will become unique ASSETS on the Etherium blockchain.

The Ethereum blockchain brought a whole new digital world where digital ASSETs could be tracked for uniqueness and scarcity, providing the perfect platform to create a one-of-a-kind type of digital ASSET.

These tokens are built on a cryptocurrency platform in compliance with Ethereum's ERC-721, ERC-1155 and ERC-1337 token standards. NFTs are units of value that are non-fungible, meaning they are unique and digitally scarce. They cannot be replaced by another equal part or quantity.

ERC-1155

When ASSETs are uploaded to The Sandbox's marketplace they are converted into non-fungible tokens (NFTs) based on the ERC-1155 smart contract.

The ERC-1155 token is a new standard on the Ethereum blockchain for representing virtual items and allows the creation of multiple types of items in the same contract. In other words, it allows creators to mint any number of copies of the same ASSET.

When using an ERC-1155 token with a supply of one, it can also be seen as an ERC-721.

What are the benefits of NFTs?

Through the use of NFTs, users of The Sandbox will be able to benefit from true digital ownership, trading, security, immutability and cross-platform interoperability.
